Kids Helping Kids Corporate Timeline

Kids Helping Kids is located in Milford, Ohio and was previously known as Straight, Inc. - Cincinnati.

The following documents show how Kids Helping Kids of Kentucky and Straight, Inc. Cincinnati became what is now Kids Helping Kids, Ohio.

Some of the documents are copies made from microfilm and may be blurred.

May 13, 1981: Straight - Midwest, Inc. changed its name to Tri-State Drug Rehabilitation and Counseling Program, Inc.

The last page of the name-change resolution indicates that at the time, Straight - Midwest, Inc./Tri-State was operating in Kentucky under the name of Kids Helping Kids.

January 1982: The first kids arrived at Straight, Inc.-Cincinnati (6074 Branch Hill Guinea Pike, Milford) from St. Petersburg, Florida.

March 22, 1982: The Straight Foundation, Inc. (a Florida company) incorporated in Ohio - 2 months after they began taking "clients".

January 8, 1987: The Straight Foundation, Inc. of Ohio changed its name to Straight, Inc.

1987, Date Unknown: Following years of allegations of abuse, including beatings, brutal physical restraint, excessive use of isolation, and deprivation of food and sleep, Straight, Inc.-Cincinnati closed and transferred kids to Straight programs in Atlanta and Detroit. Court proceedings against Straight, Inc.-Cincinnati were to begin that same day.

August 31, 1993: The Straight Foundation officially signed the property (6074 Branch Hill Guinea Pike) over to Tri-State Drug Rehabilitation and Counseling Services of Kentucky, doing business as Kids Helping Kids. The deed was signed by Joseph Garcia, Vice President of Straight Foundation, aka Straight, Inc.

September 21, 1993: Tri-State Drug Rehabilitation and Counseling Services (aka Kids Helping Kids, Kentucky and Straight-Midwest, Inc.) reports the use of the fictitious name Kids Helping Kids in Ohio.

Internal documents showing the rules and treatment modality of Straight, Inc. and Kids Helping Kids are available on our Kids Helping Kids and Straight page.
